Designer Tuesday: IMEbyJThomas

1)Introduce yourself: What is your name?
Jeannetta Thomas also known as J.Thomas

2) Where are you from? Where are you located?
I am from Montgomery AL and I now reside in Huntsville, AL and I travel world wide for fashion shows and vending opportunities,

3)How did you get started? I am a former Soldier and I was inspired by how people viewed me as always being fashionable outside of my Army uniform, and I liked being different and stylish. I researched the profession and liked what I found. From there I attended Alabama A&M University and took up studies in fashion design and after graduation in Fall 2009 I started designing for others and started my own company called I'Me. Since graduation I took up classes at O'More College of Design in Franklin, TN, and I have been pressing forward with business growth every since.

4)What inspires you to make the designs you do? I get inspired by color and fabric designs. I normally decide what I will design based on what the fabric looks like.

5)Do you ever get designers block? If so, what do you do to get inspiration? I don't think I get designers block. If anything I get stuck in a place where I want to design something but it is new and I am unfamiliar with the process. When that happens I either try doing it anyway using the techniques I do know or I do something completely different.

6)Any plans for the future? I am currently working on getting my clothing designs manufactured since they are becoming more and more popular and in various states where I cannot just up and travel to them. Therefore I need to produce more then I am able to produce on my own.

7)Any word of advice for up and coming designers? The best advice I could give up and coming designers is to invest in their business. You have to spend money to make money and take risk. No one can make you want to push yourself harder than you can. At the end of the day if designer want something to happen they must be willing to put in the work to make it happen. But if nothing else one of the BIGGEST things that designer must do is NETWORKING....it is so important that they network with other designers, bloggers, companies and stylist. It is very true that it is sometime who you know that will help you get your big break.

8)How do the readers get in contact with you or buy your designs? I can be reached easiest via email at jeannetta.thomas@yahoo.com or Design@imebyjthomas.com.  Also my website is very detailed on information for me at www.IMebyJThomas.com

9)Last but not least: What is your accessory personality? I would say is is Odd and bulky. I like things that are different and is a big statement piece.

Thanks for the Interview Jeannetta!

XOXO,

Let the white parties....begin!

It's finally the weekend and I have a few white parties to go to. Did I tell you I love living in Florida? One of the benefits of living in this state is that it is summer time with cool breezes for 360 days in the year minus the 5 days of 40 degree winter weather. Other than that the rest of the time, it's great. I love the fact that the most amount of winter gear I have to wear is a leather jacket and maybe a scarf. Don't get me wrong, I have lived in areas where the winter is so cold that my nose freezes over or I wear so many layers that it literally took me 15 minutes to take it off before I actually relaxed and settled down at home, thus I prefer summer.

But back to the white party, so I am trying to figure out what to wear and found this cute one shoulder white dress at Asos. Ahem....it's so cute it costs over $500...ha! If I were to buy that dress I would literally be standing still all night long and not near anyone drinking eating or dancing. So in other words, I would wear it at home in my living room. lol.

Outfit:

Dress: Asos.com $500
Watch: Asos.com $300
Shoes: Asos.com $180
Earrings: Accesuality.com $15
Bracelet: Accesuality.com  $15

The rose gold watch....LOVE IT! and the nude shoes are cute too; paired with fish bone earrings and a charmed bracelet on Accesuality.com (both items sold out) makes for a great white party outfit!

XOXO

More great finds.....

Besides the food and culture in Thailand, I enjoyed the accessory shopping in Thailand. On my way over to Thailand I found the cutest bracelets at the Taipai, China airport and bought a few....just couldn't resist.

I also got the following wooden bracelets below from a town in Thailand called Ayutthaya which also has the buddha head stuck in a tree (pictured below). No one knows how it got there but suspects that it was probably chiseled and left there during a storm and eventually grew with the root of the tree and will continue to be raised from the ground the higher the tree goes.

On another note, I have obtained interviews from a few accessory designers that I am excited about featuring on the blog and will probably post a few tomorrow. Also working on updating a few things and also getting ready to update the website for the summer.

xoxo
